On Thursday 6 October, we attended the award ceremony of the 'Gouden Kaasboor 2022'. Who was able to best distinguish the type, age, taste and quality of different cheeses at the NNKC cheese judging competition and can call themselves the best cheese connoisseur in the Netherlands for a year?
The NNKC (Dutch national cheese judging competition) is a well-known event in the cheese sector and was held for the 62nd time this year. In this professional competition, it is not the product but the craftsmanship of the individual that is judged. On 26 and 27 September, about 600 cheese professionals viewed, smelled, felt and tasted 'blind' 10 cheese samples from a specially selected range of Dutch cheese. The participants came from the entire cheese sector, such as cheese producers, traders, specialty shops, retailers and knowledge institutes. This shows that the attention for craftsmanship in the cheese sector remains as high as ever!

A week after the tests, on Thursday evening 6 October, the winners were announced during an entertainment show with the theme 'cheese masters'. With 236 out of 250 points, Sjoerd Hiemstra of CONO Kaasmakers was the winner of the 'Gouden Kaasboor'. Gold, silver and bronze medals were also awarded in the categories trade, industry and retail. Afterwards, we enjoyed a huge cheese buffet including the tastiest cheeses of the Netherlands.
